We have chickens!

We did it! We took the plunge!
We have 10 Buff Orpingtons
2 Golden Laced Wyandottes
2 Americaunas (I think I'm going to add 4 more today though)
Aren't they adorable?!
They range between 5 days and 2.5 weeks old.

Colven is completely smitten.

When Papa bought chickens before Nana passed away I asked him if I could expect to get eggs from him each week and he said "Heck no! I'm gonna eat 'em!"

Please tell me yours are for the eggs!

Okay - I remember you saying 1 rooster. Do they screen them for sex? Where did you get them - locally? Mail order?

Man - I can't wait until this can be us someday!

I want some so badly but can't figure out what to do when we travel....

Lindsay... oh so sorry hehe ;) they are dual purpose birds! We will eat all but one or two roosters and then go from there --

Sherri these are all "straight run" chicks meaning they are not sexed yet. EEKS! haha!

Marlyn just time it so that you can butcher them all before you travel and then start over! HAHA! Or find a neighbor/friend that will foster them for you!

Erin...so stoked about the chickens! Now we can not only kid talk but also chicken babble (cackle) together-haha!
Umm the chicks were said to be sexed...?? but ya know how that goes. 1in 5 could be roo's.OMG, I sure hope that they aren't 1/2 roos.We would loose so many ;(
Love ya so much, and am excited about this journey together too. We are so lucky or atleast I am!

I have a foster family in mind. Hadn't thought about butchering. Hmm, that could work...

Alright, we're gonna do it when we get back from the cruise!

oh wow! I can't wait to hear how this all goes for you. About the butchering- - do you have a place in mind to do the processing? I've heard it can be hard to find a good place...
