I've never seen any fireflies here. I remember chasing them around when I was little while visiting my mom's family in Ohio though! You are right though, they do look quite similar. Must be same family. Now I wish I had looked at it's underside. Next time I see one I may have to put it in a jar and wait for night time just in case! :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefly

That looks similar to a lightning bug here, but not totally sure. Do you have them there?

It does look like a lightening bug/firefly but they don't live west of the Rockies! Bet it's in the family.
