Working on rainbow capes for holiday presents.

The amazing thing about California in the fall: One day we're freezing at the beach and just a few later the barometer has risen once again and my boy is naked in the Pacific. Colven's grandma Taia sent this photo she captured with her phone today. My boy loves water, loves to run, and he loves to be naked!

The full moon made for a fabulous negative tide which allowed us to scour the exposed beach for agates and peek into tidepools, between rocks, and inside crevices.

Look! Our first artichoke!

We harvested the remainder of the broccoli crop today. What a great run we had. I planted about 10 plants and had an amazing amount of the most incredible broccoli for over a month! Colven picked the last bunch up and claimed stake on it :)
Otherwise today we continued cleaning up the garden, planting our chicken forage blend and planted one entire bed of both yellow and purple onion sets and a new batch of carrots. Tomorrow I'm hoping to get in the Walla Walla onion seeds, just have to find a spot for them! All the beds are so busy right now. I'm hoping to talk Cyrus into building me a new one tomorrow ;)

The sweet taste of VICTORY!

Well OK this is a fig, but when I took a bite of it this morning (thanks for sharing with your mom, Colven!) and tasted the sweetness of it, I couldn't help but do a little happy dance for the presidential results! President Obama! What a lovely ring that has to it!

Hope and the promise of things to come

After a few days of rain the sun came out this morning. Colven and I got up and ate some blueberry pancakes and eggs and got our jackets and boots on right over our pajamas and got outside to soak up the sun. It was such a crisp, clear, perfect morning. I noticed the cover crop seed has started to sprout and I couldn't help but think about how beautiful it will be in just a few short months. I also couldn't help but find in the promise of these new seedlings, just sprouted today, the opportunity and hope for a fresh start with our presidential election. I'm hoping and hoping and hoping.....

The promise of a new start is on our horizon! I hope it materializes.

Our Daily Fig

We have been picking one ripe fig per day off of our brown turkey fig tree. We have such addiction to the little candy-like fruits that I've decided to plant two more trees this fall. I think I'll do one more brown turkey, and one black mission. Yummm.

We joined my sisterIL and niece on a school field trip to The Farm for a hay ride and pumpkin gathering. Costumes were optional, so of course Colven jumped at the chance to wear his dragon costume!
